Privacy Policy

ShelfTag is a grocery price app operated by ACar Technologies, Inc. (“we”, “us”), based in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. It shows weekly ads and shelf prices from grocery stores near you, helps you build a shopping list, and prices recipes at nearby stores. This policy explains what information the app uses, why, and the choices you have.

What we collect and why

  • Your area. A ZIP code, an address you choose, or your device’s location if you allow it. We use it only to find the stores near you and their prices. You can use ShelfTag with just a ZIP code.
  • Your list and saved stores. Kept on your phone. If you create an account, your list, favorite stores and shopping location are also saved to your account so they follow you to another device.
  • Account details (optional). If you sign in with email, Apple or Google, we receive your email address and a sign-in identifier from that provider. You can use ShelfTag without an account.
  • Store loyalty cards. Card numbers you add stay on your phone. They are not sent to us.
  • Receipt photos. If you scan a receipt, the photo is sent to our server so we can read the store and prices on it.
  • Recipes you import. When you paste a recipe link or text, we fetch that page or read that text to find the ingredients and price them. Imported recipes are saved on your phone.
  • Camera. Used only when you choose to scan a barcode, a store card or a receipt.

Pinterest

If you choose to connect Pinterest, you sign in on Pinterest’s own page and approve read-only access. ShelfTag then reads your Pinterest username, your boards, and the Pins on the boards you open, so you can pick recipes to price.

  • We only read. ShelfTag never creates, edits, saves or deletes Pins or boards, and never posts on your behalf.
  • For each Pin you choose, we open the recipe page it links to and read its ingredient list to price it.
  • The access token Pinterest gives us is stored on our server and used only to load the boards and Pins you ask for.
  • We don’t sell Pinterest data, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone else.
  • You can disconnect at any time in the app (Recipes → Pinterest → Disconnect), which deletes the token from our server. You can also remove ShelfTag’s access in your Pinterest settings.

What we don’t do

  • We don’t sell your personal information.
  • We don’t show ads, and we don’t use advertising or analytics trackers in the app.
  • We don’t share your information with other companies, except the services that run ShelfTag for us (below) or when the law requires it.

Services we use

  • Google Firebase stores accounts and the lists saved to them, and hosts the app’s price data.
  • Apple and Google sign-in, only if you choose them.
  • Pinterest, only if you connect it.
  • Instacart: if you tap a delivery link, the item names on your list are sent to Instacart to build that cart. Instacart’s own privacy policy applies there.

How long we keep it

Account data is kept until you delete your account. Receipt photos and imported recipe pages are kept only as long as needed to read them and improve price matching. A Pinterest token is kept until you disconnect or it expires.

Your choices

  • Use ShelfTag without an account, without location access, and without connecting Pinterest.
  • Delete imported recipes in the app, and disconnect Pinterest at any time.
  • Ask us to access, correct or delete your information by emailing privacy@acarnj.com.

Children

ShelfTag isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date above. Significant changes will be noted in the app.
